Court remands man for allegedly beating sister to coma

A 26-year old man, Idowu Obasemo, who allegedly beat his sibling to a pulp, has appeared before an Ore Chief Magistrates’ Court.

Obasemo, who resides in Ore, Ondo State, is charged with a two count charge bordering on assault.

The police prosector, Johnson Okpowodu told the court that the defendant committed the offence on May 12, 2025, at about 10pm at Kajola Ojurin Camp, via Ore.

He said the defendant assaulted his elder sister, one Dupe Obasemo, who visited him to resolve a domestic dispute in the family, with cutlass which left her badly injured.

The prosecutor added that the defendant, verbally threatened to kill the victim.

“The defendant, who appeared to be intoxicated, entered his sister’s house with a cutlass beat her and one other person with it.

“The beating was severe which landed the victims in the hospital,” the prosecutor said.

The offences, Johnson said, contravened Sections 355, 86 of the Criminal Code, Cap. 37, Volume 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.

The defendants who has no lawyer, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The prosecutor prayed the court to remand the defendant to the correctional center in Okitipupa

He adjourned the case to May 15, 2025, for hearing.
