A Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ondo town, has ordered the remand of a 23-year-old man, Femi Akinnibosun, in Olokuta prison, for allegedly matcheting one Bolaji Olorunfemi on the head, which caused severe injury.
Akinnibosun was arraigned before the court on Thursday, on two counts charge bothering on conspiracy and assault.
He was said to have committed the offence with others still at large, on the November 9, 2018, contrary to and punishable under Sections 516and 355 of the Criminal Code Cap 37, Volume 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.
The charge sheet read in part, “That you, Femi Akinnibosun and others at large on the November 9, 2018 at about 3.30pm at Adeyemi, Ondo, did conspire together to commit felony to wit assault to harm and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 516 of the criminal code cap 37 Volume 1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.
But Akinnibosun pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The police prosecutor, Charles Olagbayi, who told the court that he would be calling two witnesses to testify in the case, applied for a date to enable him study the case file.
Lawyer for the accused, Mr Tomiwa Akinnugba, applied for the bail of his client in most liberal terms.
But the presiding Magistrate, Mrs Odenusi Fadeyi, who refused to grant the accused bail, ordered his remand in prison custody.
She, therefore, adjourned the case till 23, November, 2018 for consideration of bail and trial.
