A 41-year-old man, Kamorudeen Oyedele, has been remanded by an Osogbo Magistrate’s Court for allegedly beating two policemen with cutlass.
Oyedele, who operates a pharmaceutical shop in Ilobu, was accused of beating one Inspector Adekanmi Ogunniyi and one Inspector Moshood Ayanleke with cutlass in January, 2021 while performing their lawful duties.
The Police further alleged that Oyedele maliciously damaged the uniforms of Ogunniyi and another Policeman, Olabode Olawale, by tearing them.
According to the charge sheet, Oyedele also stole a pair of slippers belonging to a pregnant woman during anti-natal and forcefully collected the sum of N1,000 from her.
He was also accused of attempting to kill a 60-year-old woman, Taibat Oladapo, by putting firewood under her chair, which burnt her right leg.
Oyedele allegedly committed the offence on March 16, 2021 in Ilobu, contrary to Sections 356(1)(2), 390, 320 and 249(d) of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Vol. II, Laws of Osun State, 2002.
But the accused person pleaded not guilty to the five-count charge of assault, malicious damage, breach of peace, stealing and attempted murder levelled against him.
Defence counsel, Olatunbosun Oladipupo prayed the court to grant his client bail in most liberal term.
Presiding Magistrate, Adekanmi Adeyeba, told the defence counsel to file a formal application for the bail of the accused person.
Adeyeba ordered that the accused person be remanded in Ilesa Correctional Centre and adjourned till March 30, 2021 for mention.
