An Akure Magistrates’ Court sitting in Oke-Eda has ordered the remand of a 25-year-old man, Precious Adebomi, in Correctional Centre for allegedly raping and impregnating a 15-year-old teenage girl.
The defendant was also accused of forcing the victim, a secondary school student to swear an oath that she would not reveal the atrocity he committed.
The police arraigned Adebomi on two counts bordering on raping and conducting himself in a manner likely to cause the breach of peace of mind to the victim.
The Police prosecutor Nelson Akintimehin, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on October 2021 at about 4.00 pm in her residence, Akewi Street, Oke -Aro Akure.
He alleged that the accused unlawfully had carnal knowledge of the secondary school pupil and impregnated her.
According to him, the defendant also gave his victim some fetish substances to make an oath that she would not have another boyfriend or reveal his atrocity act to anybody, adding that it has caused great fear and panic in the life of the girl.
The police prosecutor said the offense contravened Section 221 and 249(9) of the Criminal Code Cap 37, Vol. 1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.
He said he has duplicated the case file and applied to transfer it to the office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for advice.
The accused, who pleaded not guilty to the charges, said he did not rape the victim, claiming that he did it with her knowledge.
The Magistrate, Mr Musa Al-Yunnus, who frowned at the high rate of rape in the society, ordered the remand of the defendant in prison custody pending advice from DPP.
He adjourned the case till March 28, 2022.
