Court remands man for raping minor in Ondo

A 26-year-old- bricklayer, Oshosanwo Kamoru has been remanded by a Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ondo town, for having sexual intercourse with a 6-year-old girl (names withheld).
The police brought Kamoru before the court on one- count charge of rape.
The police prosecutor, Mr Gbenga Akinsulire, said the accused person committed the offence on January 18, 2020, at about 7am, at No 37 Oyegunwa street, Eriketa, Ondo.
Akinsulire informed the court that the DPP’s advice was out from the State Ministry of Justice.
According to the legal advice, “the defendant will be charged with the offence of having sexual intercourse with a child contrary to section 31(1) (2) of the Child’s Rights Law of Ondo State, 2007.”
The prosecutor, however, prayed that the defendant be remanded in Segede Correctional home till the filing of information at the high court.
Defense counsel, Philip Afolayan did not oppose the application made by the prosecutor against his client.
The magistrate, Mrs Odenusi Fadeyi granted the application made by prosecutor, saying the legal advice dated September 22, 2020 recommends that the defendant has case to answer.
Hence, she remanded the defendant at the correctional home till the filling of information at the State High Court.”
