Court remands man over abduction of 14-yr-old

An Akure Chief Magistrates’ Court, has ordered the remand of a 32-year-old man, Adebayo Oluwasanjo, for alleged abduction.
The defendant, an indigene of Ondo town and others at large were said to have committed felony by causing breach of the peace.
They allegedly abducted one Mercy Paul, a 14-year-old girl, without the consent of her parents.
According to the prosecutor, Inspector Augustine Omhenemhen, the defendant committed the offence between September 14 and 16, 2022 at about 10:00pm at Bagbe in Ondo.
The alleged offence is contrary to and punishable under Sections 516, 361, 249(d) of the Criminal Code Cap 37, Volume 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria 2006.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the three count charges levelled against him.
The prosecutor, informed the court of his intention to move a motion on notice for the remand of the defendant.
However, lawyer for the defendant, H.M Oriji, said they were not ready for the Motion on Notice.
Hence he prayed the court for an adjournment to enable him file counter affidavit in response to the motion.
The Magistrate, O.R. Yakubu adjourned the case till June 1, 2023 and ordered the remand of the defendant in police custody.
