A 37-year-old driver, Olaniyan Akinniyi, has been remanded in prison by an Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court for  diverting    proceeds from a  transport  business in to his own use N865,100.

The prosecutor, Inspector Monday Ojiezele, told the court that the accused person converted to his own use, N865,100 realised from a transport business involving a Volvo FM7 lorry  marked  APM-234 XA, which the complainant, Oluyomi Adenuga, gave him.

He added that the accused person also conducted himself in a manner likely to cause the breach of peace.

The accused person pleaded not guilty to the charges which contravened sections 249(d), 383 and 390 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.

The accused person, of no fixed address, and  facing a two-count charge of fraud and breach of public peace, allegedly committed the offences sometime in June, 2019 at Iremo street, Ile-Ife.

The defence counsel, Mr Ben Adirieje, had applied for the bail of  his client  in most liberal term. He pledged that he would not jump bail.

The presiding Magistrate, Olukunle Owolawi, denied the bail application and ordered  the  remand of the accused   in Ile-Ife Prison.

The case was adjourned till September 13, 2019 for hearing.
