Court remands operator for stabbing two in Akure

A 42-year-old sawmill operator, Emmanuel Omonode has been remanded by an Akure Chief Magistrates’ Court for attempted murder.

The police charged Omonode, whose address is unknown with attempted murder and grievous assault.

The suspect described as ex-convict was alleged to have conducted himself in a manner likely to cause breach of peace committed the offence on May 1, 2023 at Plaza Area, Oke ljebu, Akure.

The police prosecutor, Nelson Akintimehin informed the court that the defendant stabbed one Bunmi Akinfolarin on her right hand several times and inflicted deep injury on her.

Akintimehin further stated that the defendant on the same date, time and place also stabbed one Shaibu Ebenezer on his armpit causing deep injury and also stabbed his left hand palm respectively.

The offence committed is contrary to and punishable under Sections 249(d), 335 of the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Volume 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.

The defendant pleaded guilty to the three  counts levelled against him.

The prosecutor pleaded with the court to enable him get the fact of the case and applied for an adjournment.

Akintimehin prayed the court to remand the defendant at in the correctional centre pending the determination of the case.

Chief Magistrate, Musa Al-Yunus ordered the remand of the defendant at Olokuta Correctional Centre, Akure and adjourned the case till May 29, 2023 for hearing.
