Court remands suspected cultist

An Ondo State High Court sitting in Akure, has remanded one John Segun, in correctional centre over unlawful membership of AIYE Confraternity.

The defendant allegedly committed the offence on November 9, 2021 at 9:00am at lpele, Owo.

John was arraigned for being a member of AlYE confraternity cult group.

The offence committed is contrary to and punishable under Sections 1 of Cultism, Secret Cult and Similar Activities (Prohibition) Laws, Cap,39, Volume. 2, of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.

John who was arraigned on one count, pleaded not guilty to the charge leveled against him.

Counsel to the defendant, O.O Oladapo prayed the court to temper justice with mercy, saying  there was no probable cause to remand the defendant

Justice Yemi Fasanmi, in his ruling, ordered the remand of the defendant at Olokuta correctional centre.

He, thereafter, adjourned the case till February 13, 2023 for hearing.
