Court remands two for alleged theft of cooking pots in Ibadan

A Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Mapo, Ibadan, on Friday, ordered the remand of two individuals, Faruk Lawal, 25, and Blessing Otubo, 45, over the alleged theft of three cooking pots valued at N100,000.

The presiding Magistrate, Mrs O.O. Latunji, directed that the accused be kept at the Agodi Correctional Centre after failing to meet their bail conditions.

Latunji had granted them bail in the sum of N50,000 each, with two sureties in like sum. She adjourned the case till April 9 for hearing.

The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Inspector Oluseye Akinola, informed the court that the incident occurred on March 1 at Iyemetu Area of Ibadan.

According to Akinola, Lawal allegedly broke into the residence of one Olaitan Omola and stole three metallic pots worth N100,000, which he later sold to Otubo for N11,000.

The prosecution stated that the offences contravened Sections 516 and 390 (9) of the Criminal Code Cap 38 Vol. II Laws of Oyo State 2000.
