Court remands two Okada robbers

Two robbery suspects, Oluwatomi Obosi and John Layemo, who specialise in robbing people of their motorcycles, were on Friday remanded in Shegede prison by the Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ondo town over conspiracy and armed robbery.

The police said Obosi, 19 and Layemo, 21, while armed allegedly robbed two motorcyclists at about 8:30am at Olowo junction, Ore, in the Ondo Magisterial District.

The duo were arraigned before the court presided over by Mrs Fadeyi Odenusi, on three count charge bothering on conspiracy and armed robbery.

The prosecution alleged that on June 7, 2018, the suspects conspired with others at large and used an axe to rob one Musibau Raimi of his new red Bajaj motorcycle with number plate GKB 727 UA valued at N250,000.

Obosi and Layemo with others still at large while also armed with axe, were said to have robbed one Semiu Azeez of his new unregistered red Bajaj motorcycle with chasis number MD2A18AUGHINJ4, valued at N250,000.

They were said to have committed the offences on May 30, 2018, at about 8pm along Benin-Lagos road, Ore, in the Ondo Magisterial district

The prosecution said the offences contravened Section 6, 1(1)(2)(a)(b) Cap R. 2 of the Robbery and Fire Arms (special provision) Act Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.

The  plea of the suspects were taken.

The police prosecutor, Sgt Gbenga Akinsulire applied for a date to await the legal advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).

The Magistrate, Mrs Fadeyi, adjourned the case till January 12, 2019.

She directed that hearing notice should be served on the Director of Public Prosecution and the state Commissioner of Police.
