Court remands two over alleged murder

Two men, Akinfemi Akintunde a.k.a Hammer, 32, and Tope Bamidele a.k.a Jackor, 25, who allegedly killed a middle-aged man, have been dragged before an Akure Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting at Oke-Eda, over alleged murder.
The accused persons were brought on a two- count-charge of conspiracy and murder.
The prosecution said the accused person, killed one 30-year-old Adekunle Akinlosotu, by shooting him with a gun on his head, resulting to his death.
The duo were alleged of killing the deceased on March 24, 2019 at about 10.00 a.m. at Oluseyi Street, beside General Hospital, Ondo, in the Ondo State Magistrate District
The alleged offence was said to be contrary to section 316 and punishable under sections 324 and 319 of the Criminal Code, Cap 37 Volume 1 laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.
The pleas of the accused persons were not taken when the charge was read to them.
The prosecutor, Suleiman Abdulateef, prayed the court to remand the accused persons in prison custody pending the advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).
Lawyer to the defendants, Mrs Olawumi Salami, did not oppose to the remand application made by the prosecutor.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Victoria Bob-Manuel, held that it is a case of murder which the court lacks jurisdiction to entertain.
She, therefore, ordered the remand of the accused persons in Olokuta prison pending the legal advice from the DPP’s office.
The case was adjourned to June 6, 2019 for review and issuance of the legal advice.
