COVID-19: ODSG receives more relief materials

Ondo State Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu has frowned at the nonchalant attitude of some residents of the state towards observing laid down protocols to prevent the spread of the deadly COVID-19 in the state.

The Governor spoke at the State Infectious Diseases Hospital (IDH), Akure during the donation of some COVID-19 relief materials by the Coalition Against COVID-19 (CACOVID), to the State government.

The materials donated to the state government by the coalition included; 25 Sphygmomanometer, 100 beds and accessories, 25 oxymeters and 5 bedside monitors.

The materials were facilitated by the committee set up by the state government to mobilise funds towards fighting COVID-19 pandemic.

Governor Akeredolu who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Chief Olugbenga Ale, appreciated CACOVID for the timely donation, describing it as very important to the state at this critical time when the whole world is battling the Coronavirus pandemic.

 “This is a gesture which will linger on in the mind of the State Government and the people in the State for a long time to come because it came at the present time of need. I want to also thank the committee put in place by the state government to mobilise funds towards fighting this pandemic.

“The committee facilitated what we are witnessing and I thank them for their efforts. We will continue to mobilise more resources to fight this pandemic”, he said.

 Governor Akeredolu particularly expressed his displeasure over what he regarded as flagrant disobedience by some residents to the necessary precautionary measures aimed at curtailing the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic in the state.

 “I want to use this opportunity again to appeal to the good people of Ondo State to adhere strictly to the rules and regulations laid down to fight COVID-19. We are behaving as if there is nothing at stake, as if the fight is over. It is not over”, he stressed.

He further enjoined the people to maintain physical and social distancing, wash their hands regularly, use their nose masks and use hand sanitizers always.

 He explained that all the measures put in place by government were not to punish anybody but to contain the spread of the deadly COVID-19 in the state.

Governor Akeredolu urged the citizens to avoid unnecessary journey but stay at home and avoid receiving visitors from other states.

Also speaking, Commissioner for Health, Dr Wahab Adegbenro said COVID-19 is real, and government was taking necessary measures to stop the spread of the deadly virus in the state.

“We anticipate more donations from individuals, Organisations, and non governmental agencies to assist the government in the fight against this COVID-19. Government is trying, more donations will help the State in ensuring the treatment of every affected person effectively”, he said.

The representative of CACOVID in the state, Mr. Akinbode Akinola, noted that the donation was to assist the state government in the fight against the deadly COVID-19 pandemic in the state

He appreciated the state governor for his support for the coalition.
