The Ondo state Committee of Consumer Protection Council has said that it has restructured for better performance and to improve the internal generation of revenue of the state.

The state General Manager of the council, Mr. Ayo Mesileya made this known at the weekend when he spoke in an interview with The Hope in Akure, the Ondo state capital.

Mesileya said the process of restructuring was responsible for the slow pace of activities of the organisation in the state this past few weeks.

” Since we came on board, we have been doing our best to ensure that the agency is well positioned to be able to deliver its core mandate effectively promoting the interest of  consumers in the state”, he said.

He noted that the council has been able to reach out to all the important stakeholders and regulatory bodies like the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON), NAFDAC, and others for the purpose synergising so that they can operate successfully.

His words: “We have equally reached out to Associations and producers to remind them of our mandate while enlightenment and sensitisation continues for them to know that we are fully back and set to carry out our monitoring exercise”.

While saying that they were expected to generate revenue to the coffers of the state government, he said the council will commence full operation in January to meet their target.

He said that the law will be enforced on any producer or seller who violates the law.

This, he observed, attract payment of fines which will help increase the state revenue.

He called on producers to ensure that their products are of good quality while consumers are expected to report where they felt that  their rights have been violated to seek for redress.

He said the consumers should be vigilant during the Yuletide to avoid taking unwholesome items.

He charged consumers to always check the date of manufacturing and the expiring date as well as the quality of goods to avoid buying products that are bad.
