The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State has dismissed criticisms by the Coalition of All Civil Society Organisations in Ondo State (CACSOD) over recent defections into the ruling party, describing the group’s remarks as ill-informed and contrary to democratic principles.
In a statement signed by the party’s Director of Media and Publicity, Mr. Steve Otaloro, the APC said the influx of new members reflects growing confidence in the leadership of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
According to the statement, the decision of lawmakers and other political figures to join the APC underscores the party’s strong record of performance and people-oriented policies.
Otaloro argued that political realignments are a normal feature of democracy, adding that elected representatives have the right to associate with platforms that align with their ideals and better serve their constituents.
“To suggest otherwise is to stifle democracy and undermine the will of the people,” he said.
The APC also dismissed CACSOD’s claim that a weakening opposition signals the death of democracy, noting that democracy thrives on performance, accountability and public trust not merely the existence of opposing parties.
Welcoming the defectors, including the House Minority Leader, Hon. Olajide Oguntodu (Akure South 1), and Hon. Oluwatoyin Daodu (Akoko South West 1), the party pledged to treat all members with fairness and offer them equal opportunities for growth and leadership.
Otaloro urged civil society groups and citizens to focus on the substance of governance rather than partisan rhetoric, reaffirming the APC’s commitment to practical, accountable and result-driven leadership in Ondo State.
