Residents of Ondo State have been advised to imbibe the right attitude to waste disposal, in order to guarantee a healthy living.

The General Manager, Ondo State Waste Management Board, Mrs. Bola Akinyanmi made this known while speaking with The Hope during the week in Akure.

According to her, effective waste management concerns everyone, adding that it is important that everyone play his/her role well in ensuring it is properly done, so as to improve the well-being of all.

Frowning at the inappropriate disposal of waste by some citizens of the state, she explained that it is wrong to burn waste, throw it into river courses or even dump it along major ways, saying “those who engage in such acts are not well educated as to the impact of neglecting waste management.

“I have noticed that so many people give very little attention and commitment to management of waste. This should be seen as a major issue that must be tackled.”

Akinyanmi, while speaking extensively on the board’s projection for the year, hinted that the board is set to embark on the use of effective enforcement to ensure compliance with waste management laws in the state by citizens.

She also revealed the board’s determination to engage the use of waste data gathering and enumeration of property in the state, so as to improve its activities and have a cleaner state.

Her words: “We want to know the number of houses and properties we have in the state so as to have an idea of volume of waste. This will enable us know how to  attack the collection in phases.
