Delta 2023 Teqball Tour: Sunshine Queens player wins bronze

As curtains were drawn on the maiden edition of National Teqball Championship tagged Delta Teqball Tour, Ondo State representative and Sunshine Queens player, Akintunde Ololade has won bronze in female singles at her first attempt.

Ololade defeated her team mate Timilehin Towobola who had earlier defeated fellow Sunshine Queens duo of Ayo Omosuyi and Suliat Ajibade to coast home with the bronze medal in female singles.

While Ayo Omosuyi and Jennifer Ukam were 4th in the female doubles of the championship. Team Ondo was represented by “Odatiwa Ambassadors” at the Championship.

About 68 Teqers from 18 football clubs had taken part in the competition held at Stephen Keshi International Stadium,Asaba.

In a chat with newsmen,head coach of Sunshine Queens Oladimeji Abimbola and his players emphasized on the need to introduce teqball to all football clubs in Nigeria.

He said he was inspired to introduce teqball to his team as part of the things he learnt when he visited Europe sometime ago.

Oladimeji also revealed that the introduction of the game has boosted the players technique and soccer prowess

“I saw European clubs using it as part of their training technique and I ask questions for understanding”.

“When I introduce it this season to the club, it improved the technical play of my players and it paid off as all the Male and Female players of Sunshine Stars/Queens won their matches against players that have been playing the game for some years.

Players of Sunshine Queens Ukah Jennifer and Ajibade Suliyat said it is their first time playing a teqball tournament and they are excited with the experience. They added that it really improved their footwork and skill as a football players.

Sunshine Stars Team Manager, Seun Betiku who was part of the state contingent to the competition congratulated team Ondo for their sterling performance at the championship being their first outing as far as the game of skills is concerned.

He added that both Sunshine Stars/Queens will encourage interested players to continue playing the game.
