A man’s life has been plunged into confusion and bitterness when he caught his wife of over 10 years having an affair. It was a huge blow to his self esteem and confidence. To worsen matters, he had been faithful to her ever since he got married to her.
To the casual onlooker, theirs was a happy marriage that any woman would covet. She was the kind of wife most men would want their wives to emulate.
She was soft spoken and meek. In all issues, she always defer to her husband. If her opinion was sought on any matter in the neighbourhood, she would beseech them to wait until “our daddy” comes.
What a sweet marriage! Little did we know that there was turbulence beneath their calm facade.
They have a five year old son whom they both doted over being the only issue. They were both gainfully employed but the wife was well off while the husband’s business was not going as smoothly as they would have wanted. He merely struggled to get by.
However, they were not bothered by the disparity in their finances as the wife was very supportive. They combined their resources to build a house. They leave together in the morning in the husband’s gulf car. While the wife closes around 5pm, the husband only comes in late in the evening.
Everything seemed set for them to plan their foray into a glorious future until trouble reared its ugly head.
The wife’s colleagues had hinted the husband that his wife was having an affair with her boss at work. The husband found it hard to believe as he was on good terms with her boss. He found it hard to believe that both of them could be so wicked as to be having an affair right under his nose.
He became very agitated. Here was a man he had trusted with his wife and they often travelled together on business while he would take care of their son.
The images of what they could have been up to while together nearly made him mad. He had no proof. But he was sure of one thing; he would keep a tight rein on his wife. He decided that he had been too permissive.
Hence, the next time the wife told him she would be accompanying her boss on a business trip, the husband put his feet down that she was not going on any trip with her boss.
The wife tried to persuade him but he would not be moved. She was surprised at his adamant stance but after persuasion which he refused to yield to, she had stubbornly left for the trip leaving their son in his care as usual.
In her haste, she had left her phone behind. As she left, a message came in from her boss.
Already suspicious, the husband did what he had never done before; he checked his wife’s phone. He was shocked to read the message of her boss telling her to hurry up and meet him at the hotel.
He was doubly shocked at their treachery. They were not traveling out of town, they were simply going to lock themselves away in an hotel right under his very nose.
By the time the wife came back to pick her phone, the husband pounced on her with his newly found evidence.
It was a very bitter fight in which the husband demanded that she must either seek a transfer out of her current place of work or resign her appointment.
The fight was a terrible one which caused an irreparable rift between them. They tore at themselves and the man beat his wife black and blue.
She went inside, pack all her belongings and left in a huff. They hurled terrible words at each other which only time and God could heal.
The wife told her husband that he was a poor specimen of a man and she had only been managing him all those years while the husband told her to leave with her “bad leg” and never come back unless she wants to die.
Craftily, the woman had gone to pick their son from school and left with him for her father’s house.
The husband was shocked at her calculation as he wondered whether she had been planning to leave him all along. Instead of her to show remorse and be apologetic, she was still huffed up when he was forced to go to her family for reconciliation.
Instead of settling with him gladly, she had told him she was through with their marriage.
Her husband now realizing that the situation had deteriorated demanded that he wanted his son, after all, it is only the wife of a poor man that can be snatched, not his son. That was when the wife had dropped her bombshell “you are not the father of our son!”.
Everyone was shocked including her family members. The man had left their house like one mesmerized. For months, he was in shock. He wished he had money to seek a DNA but things were not still going well with his business.
After a while, he decided to bid his time and later seek redress in court. He seemed to have picked up the reins of his life as the neighbours see him squaring a new woman. Hopefully, his confidence will be restored with the new union.
