Development Championship: ACA, FGGS, ASCS win gold medals

Aquinas College Akure (ACA), Fiwasaye Girls Grammar School (FGGS), and Akure Secondary Commercial School (ASCS) shone at the recently concluded sports championship held at the Ondo State Sports Complex, Akure.

Prince Ade Sports Foundation, in partnership with the state sports council, organized a two-day sports development championship for selected secondary schools in Akure.

Sunday Emmanuel of Aquinas College Akure triumphed over Kayode Ayomide of Akure High School to take home the most precious shield in the table tennis boys’ category, while the Integritas also defeated Akure Secondary Commercial 34-23 to win the gold medal in the basketball boys’ category.

In the table tennis girls’ category, Olatunbosun Oluwasemilore from Fiwasaye Girls Grammar School, Akure, defeated Adeyemo Eniola of Akure Secondary Commercial to win the gold medal.

Akure Secondary Commercial beat Fiwasaye Girls Grammar School 6-2 to clinch gold in the basketball girls’ category.

Adams Damilare (Aquinas) and Omotayo Monday (Akure Commercial School) were joint third in the table tennis boys’ category.

Adeleye Pamilerin (Fiwasaye Girls Grammar School, Akure) and Moyinoluwa Asebusuyi (Akure High School) also settled for joint third in the girls’ category.

The sponsor of the championship, Prince Adesunkanmi Adeshida, promised to build on the success of the competition, saying it will become an annual event.

Adeshida reiterated that he will continue to contribute to the development of sports in the state.

He encouraged the winners of the championship to persist in their efforts and aspire to become great athletes in the future. He emphasized the importance of balancing their education with their sports training.

He also urged parents to support their children’s participation in sports, stating that education and sports can go hand in hand and that it’s not all about certificates.

“Children have the capability to balance their education with sports; all we need is to give them the needed support.”

Captain of Ondo State Table Tennis, Akinwale Fagbamila, said he had discovered two or three promising players among the students and would inform his coach about the new discoveries.
