The Acting Provost, Adeyemi College of Education (ACE) Ondo, Dr. Ajigbade Ikuejube, has stressed the importance of science and technology in driving long-term economic growth in Nigeria.
He made assertion at the Annual National Conference of Adeyemi College of Education School of Science held in the College, themed The Role of Science and Science Education in Driving Economic Growth and Sustainability
The Acting Provost, who was represented by the Chairman, Committee of Deans, Dr. Akinyemi Akinbobola said the conference could not have come at a better time, when the world economy is in dire need of scholarly input required for proffering the needed solution.
Speaking further, Dr. Ikuejube said deliberate investment in infrastructure, security, education and human capital development is required to ensure sustainable economic growth.
He challenged the participants to come out with a communique that would assist policy makers in achieving long-term economic growth.
In his address, the Dean, School of Science, Dr. Anthony Izuagie, said the papers that would be presented by academics would pay attention to the role which science and science education would perform in driving economic growth and sustainability.
The lead paper presenter, Dr. Nelson Rotimi Osungbemiro, emphasized the importance of science, describing it as major driver of Nigeria’s economy while the Keynote Presenter, Prof. Joseph Adegboyega pointed out that science education c reduce poverty and serve as instrument in driving economic growth in Nigeria.
