Developmental projects dot complex UNIMED teaching hospital

Health is one of the greatest blessings of life and that is why it is the secret of every happy man. On this note, it is important that each individual needs to focus in his or her health and also embrace activities that can bring improvement on health as it is move valuable than health.

A responsible government who places value on its people, makes qualitative healthcare delivery its major liability as it protects the interest of the people.

No wonder, the Onde state Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu is putting in place necessary measure to ensure the people of the state enjoy the best in terms of health care delivery.

One of such measures is the ongoing developmental projects which have taken over the entire premises of the state University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED) Teaching Hospital, Akure complex.

Before one enters into the hospital premises, one is welcomed by the noise from construction sites especially the construction work going on around the would be main entrance to the hospital which is a bit close to the one in use.

Moving towards the area which houses the wards, one will not be wrong to describe the sight as clyster of zippy construction processes as it dot major part of the hospital.

Speaking with The Hope, a nurse who craved anonymity commended the hospitals management for the various development in the hospital, noting that it is putting in place the needed measures that befit a teaching hospital.

She specifically commended the management for improving the rate of water supply in the hospital saying “before now, most of the wards did not have water running at the designated points but the reverse is the case now, we now have access to water with ease.”

Speaking further, she noted that the children ward which has been renovated is now a beauty to behold as it has been beautified to suit the children on admission, adding that “a flat screen television has also been put in the ward to save these children from boredom and also aid to an extent, quick recovery.

A health attendant who does not want her name in print while chatting with The Hope expressed appreciation to the government of Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu for its developmental strides in the health sector.

Commending the management of the hospital for giving a facelift to the hospital through the various  activities in the hospital especially in the area of construction works. She noted that health assistants in the hospital are pleased  with the management adding that they get the needed materials  needed for their operation as and when due.

Taking The Hope round the hospital, physician to charge of the hospital Dr Adesina Akintan explained that it is important that some structures in the  environment are renovated while some other ones are pulled down and reconstructed in order to enable the hospital complet favourably with its counterparts in other parts of the country.

According to him, “it used to be a general hospital but now that it has become a Teaching Hospital, there is the need to upgrade our facilities so as to meet up the expected standard in providing tertiary care services,”

Speaking expensively in both the renovated and construction of ongoing structures in the hospital , he stated that  an existing structure has been renovated to accommodate the  medical patient  unit and added that another building which houses both the General Outpatient Department and Surgical patient department has been completely renovated.

Speaking further he said, “We have also completed the temporary Administration Black which is already in use unit the demolition  of the previous place son that the construction of the new accident and Emergency (A&E) complex can commence.

“We demolished the previous structure that has the building pending the definite hearing that will come up latter . Also some external work have been done to create the right environment for patients.”

Akintan who appealed to patients to bear with the hospital the inconvenience the development in the hospital may cause them, noted that the various development in the hospital have enabled the hospital attracts exports saying “the use the direction we are moving  and they are coming to key into it. We have had accreditation for many of our departments and all of these come with improvement in services.”

A patient Mr Bose Adetoye while speaking with The Hope noted that there has been a great improvement in the quality of health care delivery obtained in the hospital,

Adetoye while speaking further explained that it beat her imagination to leave the hospital on time without having to  wait endlessly to be attended to.

According to her “Before now, anything I had to visit the hospital for medical attention, I used to come early in order to get attended to on time. At times, I came to the hospital fully prepared with my lunch intact because there might be shortage of doctors to attend to patients.

I was shocked today to leave the hospital in less than one hour of my visit. This is a very good development and I hope the management keep it up.”

Another patient, a mechanic, Mr kayode Ojo pointed out that there has been a great improvement in the service delivery of the hospital.

He said: “I think there is a new development in the hospital. I had already taken a day off from my place of work today because I though I would spend a lot of time here but I was shocked when I realised the I had been attended in less than one hour of the arrival in the hospital.
