Dialogue ‘ll solve boundary crises – ODSG
Stakeholders in boundary issues have been called upon to place premium on the economic interest of people of the world borderline to reduce incessant conflicts.
Ondo State Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Boundary Commission, Mr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa made the call at an interactive session organised by the National Boundary Commission with Boundary Committees of the South West States held in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
While stressing the importance of dialogue in forestalling escalated boundary crises, Aiyedatiwa said stakeholders should consider regular enlightenment and sensitisation of flash areas in the border lines.
He urged leaders to have deliberate political will to tackle boundary issues rather than adding political sentiments.
According to him, ‘if our political leaders will be very objective about these things, we can resolve a lot of the crisis.’
‘And if the economic interest of the people of the border line can also be ensured, there will be less crises. You can bring to round table some times and enlighten them.’ He added.
In his contribution, the Executive Secretary of the state boundary commission, Mr. Abiodun Owolabi lamented that though all reported boundary cases in the state had received deserves attention, litigations in different courts is slowing the pace of some resolving boundary issues.
While also noting that court pronouncement negate the government gazette on land issue, he clamoured for a way to harmonizes laws governing boundary administration.
Deputy Governors of other five states in the South West Zone as well as the National Boundary Commission, NBC also presented their positions at the event.
