Governments at all levels have been called upon to support scientists in the country so as to boost discovery of new drugs and vaccines.
A Professor of Molecular Parasitology and the Deputy Vice Chancellor Academics at the University of Medical Sciences UNIMED, Roseangela Nwuba made the call during the third inaugural lecture of the institution held in Ondo.
Delivering the lecture, which was tagged “beating parasites at their game”, Nwuba stressed that government funding was needed for researchers to study the effect of parasites and produce vaccines to improve the immune system of humans.
While explaining that many research works were being sponsored by foreign donors, Nwuba, advised researchers not to give up.
She appealed to Nigerian government to rise to duty so that things can go on well in the country.
The inaugural lecture was graced by the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Adesegun Fatusi, students, lecturers and friends of the university.
