The management of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko AAUA, has been commended for taking a bold step towards ending indecent dressing among students of the University.
The institution adopted rustication as punishment for indecent dressing among female and male students.
Former Head of Department of Mass Communications and Public Relations Consultant of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo ( RUGiPO), Dr Rahman Abubakri gave the commendation while speaking with The Hope in an interview at the weekend.
Abubakri who is also the Director SIWES in RUGIPO said the university has the right to compel students to comply with the institution’s code for dressing.
“There must be a difference between the mentally sick needing serious medical treatment and the mentally sound young ones who are expected to be ready for academic and professional training.
“But when some hundreds of students chose to dress abnormally, the institution’s management must live up to expectations by disallowing such anomaly”, he stated.
He said the solution to indecent dressing among the male and female students of tertiary institutions is for each school to set up a committee on the matter.
He disclosed that the committee should recommend a code of dressing with photographic illustrations which should be published in a pamphlet and distributed to all students .
“Apart from making code of dressing pamphlets available for students at all levels, billboards displaying the approved and disapproved styles of dressing should be installed at the entrance of each university, polytechnic or colleges of education as the case may be.”
It would be recalled that management of the Ondo state-owned Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA) has imposed rustication as the penalty against indecent dressing by the students of the institution.
