Gospel singer and songwriter, Akande Ayomide has urged upcoming gospel artistes to remain humble and focused on God, rather than being carried away by public applause or fame.
In an interview with Friday Extravaganza, Ayomide also shared insights into her musical journey and ministry, emphasising the importance of divine guidance and sincerity in service.
“My journey began with a vision I had some years ago and I thank God for the gift of spiritually inclined people around me,” she said.
“When I was in secondary school, one of my teachers saw potential in me. At that time, I was the choir mistress and he told me that I would one day become a song minister, that it was my calling. Although I didn’t fully understand the message then, I see it manifesting today.”
She credited her elder brother, a pastor, for mentoring her spiritually, saying, “Just as Paul groomed Timothy, God used my brother to guide me and today I’m on the track of my ministry by God’s grace.”
Speaking on her song Mimo S’olodumare, released in 2024, she said it was inspired by God’s limitless goodness.
“The message in the song is that God’s goodness is unlimited. I call God Oloore Ajenjetan, meaning the one whose goodness can never be exhausted. No help or blessing exists outside God, just believe and have faith in Him.”
Ayomide disclosed that her upcoming project titled Ebe Mi (My Supplication) is a prayer song she recorded last year but has yet to release due to some constraints.
She also spoke about her approach to live performances, saying, “Whenever I have a live performance, I go through personal rehearsals and prayer sessions with my team. Prayer is essential because no amount of practice can replace the will of God being done.”
Sharing a recent experience, she recounted how she and her team narrowly escaped an accident after a praise night, adding that the incident strengthened her faith in God’s protection.
On her musical influences, she mentioned Shola Allyson, Bola Are, Dunsin Oyekan and Victoria Orenze as her role models.
To fellow gospel artistes, Ayomide advised, “Put God first. Don’t chase platforms or fame. If you glorify God through your ministrations, He will glorify Himself in you. Don’t let people’s applause deceive you, give all the glory to God.”
