Local government Chairmen in Osun State have been cautioned against executing projects without the approval of the state government.
Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Prince Adebayo Adeleke gave the warning during an inspection tour to Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Areas in the State.
According to him, based on the instructions of Governor Gboyega Oyetola, the era of executing projects at the whims and caprices of Council Chairmen is gone.
Adeleke disclosed that, part of the criteria that would be considered in granting the approval by the state government is the resolutions of the parliament of the council in support of any project proposed for execution.
The Commissioner emphasized that before embarking on any project, it must be in line with the demands and yearnings of the people and the approval of the parliament before it is forwarded to the state government for final approval.
He said that the administration of Governor Oyetola believes so much in the Osun Development Agenda which is people-oriented and which every local government must key into.
Adeleke said that the administration of Oyetola is transparent in its financial dealings and ensures that local governments in the state have their allocations directly in line with the NFIU directive.
He equally stressed that the governor is one of the three governors recently commended for the faithful implementation of the NFIU directive.
Also speaking, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr Rasaki Adeosun, urged both political functionaries and career officers to work together in harmony and with mutual respect for the benefit of all.
He said that both political office holders and bureaucrats have roles to play and they must be allowed to play those roles effectively as laid down in the law in the interest of people.
