‘Don’t heat up the polity’ Osun urges

only 29 political parties presented candidates for elective positions in Ondo State out of the registered 93 political parties .

Investigation by The Hope revealed that as some of the political parties are about to round off their campaigns, those without candidates  are yet to flag off their campaigns.

Some of the political parties according to The Hope investigation have no secretariat as some  of them used  rented shops   for their meetings.

Many of them, according to investigation are yet to submit the list of their party’s agents for the general elections to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)

It was also gathered that many could not even field candidates across all the elective offices in the state.

Statistics made available by the INEC in Ondo State to journalists showed that 29 political parties fielded 41 and 96 candidates for Senatorial and the House of Representatives seats, while 32 parties also fielded 326 candidates for House of Assembly seats out of the 93 existing parties indicated interests for the elections in the country.

Among the political parties, only the All Progressives Congress (APC), the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the Social Democratic Party (SDP), the African Democratic Congress (ADC), the Action Democratic Party (ADP) and the Zenith Labour Party  (ZLP) fielded candidates for all the three senatorial districts, 9 House of Representatives and 26 House of Assembly seats.

Those that fielded  candidates for House of Representatives are: the Action Alliance ( 4 candidates), the Allied Congress Party of Nigeria ( 2 candidates), the Progressives  Peoples Alliance ( 2 candidates),the Peoples Democratic Congress ( 2 candidates ) and the Peoples Redemption Party ( 3 candidates)

Some of the political parties that did not indicate interests in the senatorial and the House of Representatives seats but did for the House of Assembly seats in the state include: the Young Progressive Party ( 1 candidate), the Democratic People’s Party ( 2 candidates)  the Yes Electorates Solidarity (4 candidates and the Labour Party ( 14 candidates).
