The Project Manager of the Agro Climatology Department of the Ondo State Ministry of Agriculture, Mr Sunday Akintomide has advised that the rain experienced this year is not enough for farmers to embark on planting.
Akintomide who spoke in an interview with The Hope yesterday in Akure
” You cannot plant, no matter the level of of rainfall because the soil is hot and the heat will destroy the seed.
“The little rainfall experienced had only moisturised the soil to make it easy for land preparation,” he noted.
He advised farmers to start preparing their lands for the farming season which will commence when the rain is steady.
According to him, farmers should continue to prepare their lands until March which is the heat of the rainy season.
He encouraged farmers to also wait for the outcome of the Meteorologists for the annual Meteorological review to be made and predicted.
He however called on farmers to continue to harvest what they have under the soil and preparing the land for the new planting season.
