A 21-year-old driver, Ayomide Adewale, has been sentenced to thirty-six months’ imprisonment by an Ondo Magistrates’ Court, for stealing the sum of N2,300,000 at the scene of an accident.

The convict was said to have committed the offence on July 26, 2023, at about 09:30 am at Igunshin via Ondo, in the Ondo Magisterial District.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Mosunmola Ikunjuni, in her judgment, found the defendant guilty and sentenced him to thirty-six months’ imprisonment, or to pay the complainant the sum of N2,300,000.

The court, however, directed the prison officials to ensure that the convict learns a skill while in custody so that, upon his release, he will have something to do.

Prior to his conviction, Adewale, who pleaded not guilty to the charge levelled against him, prayed the court for leniency, saying he would not repeat the offence.

Prostrating in the dock, the convict explained, “I only pray for forgiveness for all I have done. I took the money and spent part of it, and somebody took the remaining money where I kept it,” he pleaded.

The prosecutor, Inspector Akano Moremi, urged the court to deliver its judgment based on the parties’ submissions.
