Driver charged with manslaughter

A driver, Jimoh Moshood , has been dragged before an Ondo Magistrate Court for killing one Skein Plate, through dangerous driving on the highway.
The defendant, who was the driver of a Toyota Sienna bus with number plate: Rivers MHA 644 XA, was alleged of driving recklessly on the public highway at a high velocity and in a manner which was dangerous to the public.
The police prosecutor, Mr Charles Olagbayi, said the accused knocked down one Segun Olaoye and also caused damage to his Stailung motorcycle.
He was alleged to have committed the offence in June 29, 2019 at about 1:30pm at Bagbe village, via Ondo, Ondo, thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under sections 18, 18(18),(5) of the traffic law cap 136 Vol. 3 laws of Ondo State of Nigeria 2006.
The charges read in part: ” That you, Jimoh Moshood in June 29, 2019, at about 1:30pm at Bagbe village via Ondo in the Ondo Magisterial District, being the driver in charge of same vehicle drove same on the public highway and caused the death of one Segun Olaoye and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 18(18) of the Traffic Laws Cap 136 vol 3, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.
The prosecutor, therefore, asked the court to remand the defendant in prison custody pending the legal advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecution.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Odenusi Fadeyi granted the application of the prosecutor and ordered that the case file should be sent to the DPP’s office.
She adjourned the case till July 22, 2019 for response from the DPP.
