Driver crushes man to death

A yet-to-be identified man was on Saturday crushed to death by a driver along Surulere, near igbonmoba junction in Ondo West local government area of the state, while others sustained various injuries.

The crash which occurred around 8:30 pm involved a Toyota Camry car driven by a 42-year-old  man, Dele Olaniyi.

The Hope Metro gathered that the driver, Olaniyi, was on top speed, when he allegedly rammed into some people walking along the pedestrian lane, killing one, and injuring others.

The driver who was almost lynched by the residents, was said to have quickly begged and called for help to rush the victims to the hospital before it was too late.

However, it was learnt that one of them gave up the ghost while being rushed to the hospital.

An eyewitness told The Hope Metro that the vehicle was coming from Surulere area on high speed at night and rammed into the people, and killed one person instantly.

According to the source, the driver kept pleading, but he was handed over to the police.

He said the victim died on the way to the hospital, while others who sustained various injuries had been taken to the hospital.

Men of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) patrol team had deposited the corpse in the morgue of General hospital in Ondo while other surviving victims were taken to the Trauma Centre for treatment.

The policemen at Yaba Division who confirmed the incident, said investigation is ongoing.
