Driver docked for damaging property

A 48-year-old man, Jide Kayode, has been arraigned before the Akure Chief Magistrate Court for allegedly driving recklessly, which led to the damage of a KIA vehicle valued at N400, 000.
Kayode, who claims to be a driver in charge of one Mitsubishi bus marked XH621ENV, was said to have driven on the public highway without efficient brake and damaged the right fender, rear bumper, right back door and alloy rim of the KIA vehicle, being property of one Abimbola Foloju
He was said to have committed the offence on September 19, 2019 at about 4:45pm around Mobil filing station, Arakale, in Akure.
The prosecution said the offence contravened section 17(5) of the Road Traffic Laws Cap 136 Vol.3 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2016.
The defendant, who is facing one count charge, pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him.
The prosecuting Sergeant , Augustine Omhenimhem, who announced the presence of the two prosecution witnesses in court, applied for an adjourned date for hearing and report of settlement.
Meanwhile, the magistrate, Mrs O. R. Yakubu granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500, 000 with one surety in like sum
Yakubu ordered that the surety must be gainfully employed and must submit two passport photographs, with evidence of tax payment and National Identification Card.
She adjourned the case till November 11, 2019 for hearing.
