A driver, Musilu Falola, has been dragged before an Ondo Chief Magistrates’ Court, for killing one Yusuf Aliu, through dangerous driving on the highway.
The defendant, who was the driver of a Mack tanker truck with number plate Lagos T19831-LA, was alleged of driving recklessly and dangerously on the public highway.
The police prosecutor, Mr. Bernard Olagbayi, said the defendant rode on the public highway and injured one Arma Ya’u Yunusa, while he also damaged one Honda motorcycle with number plate Ondo 091BDR, property of the deceased, Aliu.
Falola was alleged to have committed the offences on June 8, 2023, at about 5pm at Sabo Road, Ondo, contrary to and punishable under Sections 18 of the Traffic Law Cap 136 Vol. 3 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria 2006.
The charges read in part, ” That you, Musiliu Falola on June 8, 2023, at about 5 pm, at Sabo Road, Ondo, in the Ondo Magisterial District, being the driver in charge of Mack tanker trailer with number plate Lagos T19831-LA, drove same on the public highway recklessly and negligently and caused the death of one Yusuf Aliu and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 18 of the Traffic Laws Cap 136 Vol 3, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.
”That you, Musiliu Falola, drove same on the public highway and caused injury to one Arma Ya’u Yunusa and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 18 of the Traffic Laws Cap 136 Vol 3, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.
“That you, Musiliu Falola, driving same on the public highway and cause damage to one Honda motorcycle with number plate Ondo 091 BDR, property of one Yusuf Aliu and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 18 of the Traffic Laws Cap 136 Volume 3, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.
The defence counsel, Mr. Isreal Ikuemonisan, applied for the bail of his client in most liberal terms.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Charity Adeyanju, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with one surety.
She adjourned the case till July 24,2023 for trial.
