Driver docked over attempt to rape 76-year-old woman

A29-year-old driver, Bolaji Fawi, who allegedly attempted to rape a 76-year-old woman, (name withheld) was on Tuesday arraigned before an Akure Magistrate Court.
Fawi, whose address was not given, is standing trial on a two-count charge of attempted rape, and sexual assault.
The prosecutor, Inspector Folashade Adeyemi, told the court that Fawi committed the offences at about 3:45 am on February 13, 2024, at Oke-Odunwa Street, Ondo.
Adeyemi said that the defendant broke into the apartment of the septuagenarian, (name withheld) to forcefully have sexual intercourse with her.
He said that neighbours who heard noise from the woman’s apartment rescued her from the defendant, apprehended and handed him over to the police.
According to the prosecutor, the defendant also assaulted the victim by causing her internal injury.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Defence Counsel, O. Adedire urged the court to grant his client bail in the most liberal terms.
Magistrate Adekunle Ogunmoyela granted the defendant bail in the sum of N1million and adjourned to March 14, 2024, for hearing.
