Driver in court for stealing fowls

A 58-year-old driver, Felix Ademola, has been dragged before a Chief Magistrate Court in Ondo town, for stealing birds worth N290,000, in Ondo.

Ademola was alleged to have stolen 11 live fowls and one live turkey worth the above sum, without the owners consent.

The police arraigned the defendant before the court on a fourteen-count charge. But he pleaded guilty to only four counts and not guilty to 10 counts.

Police prosecutor, Mr Akao Moremi, said the defendant committed the offences on October 11, 2023, at about 2am at Upper Baptist Area, Ondo in the Ondo Magisterial District.

According to the prosecution, the defendant stole three fowls valued at N45,000, property of one Olasoji Folarin and one live turkey valued at N70,000, property of one Oyewole Jolaco.

On different dates, he was also accused to have stolen three fowls valued at N75,000, property of one Orogadewarere Helen, while he stole five fowls valued at N100,000, property of one Queen Esho.

He was said to have committed the offences contrary to and punishable under Section 390(9) of the Criminal Code Cap 37 Volume 1. Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria 2006.

The defendant had no legal representation.

Hence, Akao told the court to sentence him in view of his plea.

The Magistrate, Mrs Mosunmola Ikujuni, adjourned the case till December 18, 2023, for confirmation of facts and sentence.
