Driver in court over assault

A 30-year-old tanker driver, Ogolade Sodiq, has been arraigned before an Odigbo Chief Magistrate Court, over an alleged assault.
Men of the Ondo State Police Command, arraigned the defendant before Chief Magistrate D. O Ogunfuyi, on two count charge bordering on assault.
According to the prosecution, the defendant committed the offence on December 5, 2023 at about 5:30 pm at Leege village in Araromi-Obu, Ondo State.
The prosecutor, Inspector Yekini Muyideen, told the court that the accused unlawfully and grievously harmed one Adenusi Gabriel, by stabbing him with knife.
The offence contravenes Sections 351, 335 and 355 of the Criminal Code Cap. 37, Volume 1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.
When the charge was read, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the offence leveled against him.
Yekini, therefore sought for an adjournment to enable him study the case file and prepare his witnesses for trial. He also prayed the court to transfer the case file to Araromi Obu where it originated from.
The defence counsels, Mrs K. M. Lawani and Mr G.J. Ayemoro, did not oppose the prosecutor’s application. But they prayed the court to grant the accused person bail on most liberal terms.
Chief Magistrate D. O. Ogunfuyi, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N500, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
He ordered the transfer of the case file to the Magistrate Court in Araromi-Obu and adjourned the matter till December 12, 2023, for mention.
