Driver, JSS student die in Akure autocrash

Tragedy struck in Akure as an over-speeding driver ran over a Junior Secondary School student, killing her on the spot and injured another.

 The accident occurred along Airport road, Oba-Ile in Akure North local government area of Ondo state.

It was gathered that the driver died in an undisclosed hospital due to injuries.

An eyewitness told the Hope Metro that the student was returning from school and was standing by the roadside when the tragedy struck.

The  Dark Green Lexus G-350 was  coming at a high speed from the Federal College of Agriculture area and on getting to the Sunshine Estate gate hit one of the two students  crossing the road.

One of the students died instantly as a result of impact of the accident while the other student escaped unhurt.

It was also gathered that the owner of the Lexus was a well known “yahoo boy” in the area who played  football with his friends at the Sunshine Estate Park.

According to report, the vehicle summersaulted  three times, before it caught fire.

Hope Metro gathered  that the dead student  and the driver had been taken to the mortuary.

It was further learnt that a lady who sat by the driver and identified as his girlfriend was taken to the hospital for medical attention.

Olufunmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, the state police spokesperson, confirmed the incident.
