Driver, one other in court for damaging employer’s bus

A 35-year-old driver, Suliaman Hebeeb, and a man, Ayomide, 23, on Tuesday appeared before an Akure Magistrates’ Court, for allegedly stealing and damaging a commercial bus valued at N875,000.

The duo is facing trial for conspiracy, malicious damage, and theft.

The defendant committed the offences on May 11, 2021, Araromi Street Akure, the Prosecution Counsel, Nelson Akintimehin, told the court.

Akintimehin said that the defendants and others at large conspired to steal a Toyota Hiace commercial bus with number plate AKR160YZ and engine number: THR2000013827 property of one Barrister Cyril Ejidike.

The prosecutor also alleged the defendant of maliciously damaging the bus complete seat valued at N300,000, the radiator valued at N75000 and the bus complete wire valued at N500,000 property of the complainant.

“The case was reported, leading to the arrest of the defendants,” the prosecutor said.

According to him, the offences contravene Sections 516, 390(9), and 451 of the Criminal Law of Ondo State, 2006.

Following his not-guilty plea, the Magistrate, O.O. Oladapo, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N300,000, with one surety in like sum.

The magistrate adjourned the case till June 3, for hearing.
