Drivers protest colleague’s death

The National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) at Ode Irele last weekend protested the killing of their colleague by yet to be identified hoodlums during “Ore” festival in Irele local government area, Ondo State.
It would be recalled that the 35-year-old driver, Arise Idowu was reportedly killed by hoodlums during Irele Ore festival last week for refusing to give them money at a roadblock.
The deceased who was said to be plying the Ajagba-Irele-Ore road met his death during the annual “Ore” festival held in Irele last week.
Speaking with The Hope Metro, the branch Chairman of NURTW in Ode Irele, Mr Femi Omolayo, said he suspected one Doyin Folasele(team leader) and Idowu Taye over the killing of the deceased. He said it has been long the people terrorising the community but men of the Nigeria Police Force, could not apprehend them.
The Hope Metro gathered that the deceased was conveying his wives to market when he met some youths who barricaded the road, extorting motorists and road users while he refused to comply before one of the suspect ran after him and hacked him to death.
High Chief Olamigoke Bamidele, Ojagbaletemi of Irele Kingdom and Mr Olamonehin (Omo Jesu) who also spoke with our reporter linked the crisis to kingship tussle as the suspects were thugs working for some elders within the community.
