Drug abuse among youths heartbreaking– Small Doctor

Popular Afrobeats singer, Small Doctor, has raised the alarm over the growing rate of drug abuse among Nigerian youths, describing the situation as heartbreaking.

The Agege-born artiste shared his dismay following a recent visit to his childhood neighbourhood, where he observed several young men whom he described as once-promising—rendered unstable by drug addiction.

Narrating the experience via his X (formerly Twitter) handle, the singer said he was devastated to find some of his peers sleeping while standing and making strange postures, a situation he blamed on substance abuse.

“There’s one guy who advocates against drug abuse on social media David something, can’t remember his full name. It’s been a while I came across his content. I think we need him now more than ever,” he wrote.

“I strolled through the hoods and what I saw was heartbreaking. The rate at which young chaps are using drugs these days is alarming.”

Small Doctor also revealed that Fuji legend, Wasiu Ayinde, had advised him six years ago to establish a rehabilitation centre, predicting it would become a necessary and viable venture.

“He told me, ‘Start a rehab centre, it’s the new oil.’ That man saw the future,” he said.

The singer called for increased advocacy and intervention, warning that the situation is rapidly deteriorating in many local communities.
