DSS arraigns man over alleged possession of 290 NINs

The Department of State Services (DSS) in Ondo State has arraigned an Airtel staff, Aremo Abiodun, for allegedly being in possession of 290 National Identification Numbers (NINs), raising concerns over identity fraud.

Abiodun was charged with felony before Magistrate O.T. Lebi after being arrested at Shasha Market on January 8, 2025.

The prosecutor, Tunde Akinrelere, told the court that the defendant’s possession of the NINs contravened Sections 390(9)of the Criminal Code, Cap. 37, Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.

During the hearing, the DSS informed the court that two witnesses would testify against the defendant, requesting an adjournment to present their evidence.

Abiodun, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

His defence counsel, Kayode Ajayi appealed for bail on liberal terms, assuring the court that the defendant would comply with all conditions and provide credible sureties.

In her ruling, Magistrate Lebi granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N500,000, with two sureties in like sum.

The court stated that the sureties must reside within its jurisdiction, provide an affidavit of means, and submit two passport photographs.

The case was adjourned till February 13 for further proceedings.
