Osun State residents have been urged to desist from dumping refuse on water ways to forestall reoccurrence of flooding.

The State Governor, Gboyega Oyetola gave the admonition when he visited flooded areas in some parts of Osogbo resulting from overflow of the Osun River.

While giving gratitude to God that there was life lost, he said his visit was to ascertain the incidents with a view to knowing necessary action to take.

Oyetola while educating people on the remote causes of flooding said Osun water has its source from Ekiti.

“According to Engineers with expertise in this area, when there’s flooding, it would overflow to our end here because our topography is lower than Ekiti’s.

“That’s the remote cause. The immediate cause was the heavy rainfall”, the Governor said.

The governor appealed to residents, Landlord Association and other affected householders to avoid dumping of refuse on the water ways.

He said a monitoring team that would ensure compliance would soon be set up.

He however, promised to find immediate solution to the occurrence of the incident by dredging the river.
