Easter: Draw closer to God, Nigerians charged

As Christians in Ondo State yesterday joined their counterparts across the world to celebrate Easter, religious leaders have charged them to utilize the season to draw closer to God.

The clerics in their separate Easter messages submitted that the season reflects the true love God has for people to have sacrificed his beloved son.

Easter celebration is the Resurrection of Jesus Christ on the third day after his Crucifixion.

Christians in their large number filled their various churches to capacity to celebrate the event.

Chairman Christian Association of Nigeria, Ondo State chapter, Very Rev’d. Fr. Anselm Ologunwa in his Message tasked Christians to continue to work in unity so as to overcome the syndrome of divide and rule .

The Chairman described Easter as a unique festival period where our sorrow turns joy and hopelessness to glory through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

He urged the Christian faithful to continue to imbibe the virtues of peace,love, sacrifice and forgiveness which are the lessons of Easter.

Rev’d. Fr. Ologunwa who described 2023 as a very critical year in Nigeria, however thanked God for a successful general elections despite the hues and cries.

He commended the Christian faithful for their steadfastness and speaking with one voice. He urged them to continue to co-operate with one another in the task of building a strong and united Christian community.

According to him, nothing can be achieved in a divided house.

The Chairman, who described prayers as the most potent instrument of warfare, tasked the Christians not to relent in praying for our country Nigeria most especially in the face of it’s various challenges.

He used the occasion of the celebration to remind the Nation’s leadership to continue to have the masses at heart mostly those who voted them into offices in the course of their decision making.

Rev’d. Fr. Ologunwa stressed the need for peaceful co-existence and promotion of peace and unity among various religious groups in the Country as exemplified by Christ so as to further strengthen communal living.

Ondo State Overseer of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry, pastor Jacob Asubiojo  urged christians to utilize the season of easter celebration in drawing closer to God, the reason for the season.

Addressing the congregation, pastor Asubiojo who emphasized Jesus as the reason for the season urged christians in the state to draw closer to God, be a true representative of Christ and never allow His death to be in vain.

Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria, (CAN) Okitipupa, Pastor Peter Akinyelure described Easter as a period we need to remember the death and the resurrection of Jesus Christ, which symbolized “Love” It is unique because no one has ever died and arose like our Lord Jesus. It is worth celebrating.

Reverend Father Joseph Oraegbunam of Saint John Bosco Catholic Church, Ondo said resurrection of Jesus Christ showcasing God’s supremacy over everything in life.

He also urged the congregation to remain steadfast in their faith as their hopes have been renewed by Jesus’ resurrection.

Zonal Pastor of Redeemed Christian Church of God, Victory Mega Parish, Akure Pastor Wale Bankole in his message said resurrection of Jesus Christ bring solution to human problem.
