If given the necessary encouragement, the Ebira community of Ifon in Ose Local Government area of Ondo State has assured that Ondo State could become the leading producer of Yam in the South west and even in Nigeria as a whole.
A leader of the Ebira community in Ose, Alhaji Mohammed Suleiman while speaking with Community Hope in Elegbeka , near Ifon, boasted that Ebira community in the area can make the state a proud exporter of yam tubers, with the wide expanse of land available in Elegbeka.
Suleiman said that Ebira, are capable of putting the state on the world map of yam products if the government can create the right environment for them to operate .
He disclosed that as non-indigenes, they need government attention and such will be appreciated if loans, agricultural incentives and storage facilities could be provided for farmers in the area .
The community leader also called on Governor Akeredolu and the Chairman of Ose Local Government area to urgently make the road that lead to the area motorable.
According to him, the bad nature of the existing road has caused the farmers in the community great financial loss, saying they found it difficult to transport their farm products to the town for sale while prospective buyers were also unable to come to the community because of the bad road.
Getting our farm products to the town is difficult and people coming here to buy have always been finding it very difficult because most times, their trucks or lorries get stucked on the road while others fell because of the bad state of the road.
Suliama however assured the state government of their unalloyed support in all of its programmes.
