The Ebunola Atenidegbe Memorial Foundation has embarked on a free medical outreach in Idanre, Ondo State, in commemoration of the first-year memorial anniversary of Late Chief (Mrs) Ebunola Adefisoye, who passed on May 31, 2024.

The outreach, which formed part of a week-long remembrance event, was held at Atenidegbe Castle along Opa Road, Idanre.

A medical team led by Dr. Adanlawo Ayodele of the University of Medical Sciences, Akure and supported by four paramedics, conducted screenings for HIV, syphilis, blood pressure, pulse rate, blood sugar level and body weight. Beneficiaries received free medical consultations and drugs.

Speaking during a sensitisation session, Dr. Adanlawo stressed the importance of regular health checks, recommending at least bi-annual visits to medical professionals.

He encouraged students in attendance to prioritise personal hygiene and to promptly report health issues to their parents for timely intervention.

He further advised elderly participants to be conscious of chronic conditions like hypertension, which, if left unmanaged, could result in stroke or sudden death.

In a chat with The Hope, Dr. Adanlawo expressed gratitude to the Foundation for organising the outreach, describing it as an eye-opener that exposed several attendees to potential health risks previously unknown to them.

Some beneficiaries who spoke with The Hope expressed appreciation for the initiative. Miss Ibukun Adenike described the outreach as “very okay,” stating that it provided an opportunity for many who could not afford medical tests to know their health status.

She urged the Foundation to sustain the programme and advised the public to seize future opportunities to benefit from such initiatives.

Mr. Robert Iyanu, 26, also praised the Foundation and called for the continuity of the outreach. In his words, “This programme is very nice. I hope they continue it.”

Students from Betend High School, Idanre, were not left out. Akinmola Abiodun, an SS2 student, expressed his profound appreciation to the organisers, while Miss Akinseye Joy, also a student of the school, said she learnt a lot from the sensitisation session, particularly on issues of personal hygiene.

Speaking on behalf of the Foundation, Mr Oba Adefisoye thanked God for the success of the maiden edition and applauded the medical team for their professionalism and dedication.

He assured that the outreach would become a regular exercise, with plans to expand its scope in subsequent editions.

He emphasised that the gesture was being carried out in memory of their late mother, Chief (Mrs) Ebunola Atenidegbe Adefisoye, who was renowned for her compassion, generosity, and concern for the well-being of others.
