In a strategic move to enhance electricity supply and stimulate economic activities, the Ondo State Government, in partnership with Lincs Power Energy Solutions, has launched a 5-megawatt independent power plant in Ondo City, the headquarters of Ondo West Local Government Area.
Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, represented by his Special Adviser on Energy, Johnson Alabi, stated that the project would provide uninterrupted electricity to businesses and industries, thereby driving economic expansion in the state.
He reiterated his administration’s commitment to infrastructural development, noting that the initiative aligns with the state’s ‘Our Ease’ policy aimed at fostering prosperity.
“This initiative is designed to transform the economic fortunes of our people by ensuring access to stable electricity. It will support small and medium enterprises, encourage industrialisation, and enhance the ease of doing business in Ondo State,” Aiyedatiwa said.
The project was facilitated by the Executive Director of Digital Exploration and Technical Services at Galaxy Backbone, Olumbe Akinkugbe, who lauded the state government for prioritising energy sufficiency.
He called on residents to support the initiative, adding that plans were in place to scale up the capacity to 20 megawatts in the near future.
Akinkugbe emphasised that the project’s construction phase would commence immediately, with Lincs Power Energy Solutions committed to delivering the project within the stipulated timeframe.
“This project is a major boost for economic activities in the state. It will not only reduce energy costs, but also attract investment and create jobs for our people,” he said.
Similarly, the Project Manager of Lincs Power Energy Solutions, Adeyemi Michael Otinniyi, assured that the power plant would provide a reliable and sustainable energy supply to Ondo City and surrounding areas.
Dignitaries present at the launch included the Osemawe of Ondo Kingdom, Oba Dr. Victor Adesimbo Kiladejo, represented by the Sasere of Ondo Kingdom, High Chief Adeduro, alongside members of the Osemawe-in-Council. Also in attendance were the Chairman of Ondo West Local Government, Ayo Akinfolarin, political leaders, community representatives, and women groups.
