Ahead of Edo 2020 National Sports Festival (NSF), the Ondo State boxing coach, Mr Abiodun Obanla has said his boys will not settle for anything less than Gold medals despite the short training.
Obanla in a chat with Sporting Hope at the training ground said Ondo State boxers have unbroken records of winning medals at every competition.
According to him, when all other games were lost in Kwara 1985, it was only boxing that gave the only gold for the State.
He said the short preparation will not be a setback, saying COVID -19 has not been helpful. The boys are not physically where they are suppose to be, but there is still room for improvement before the commencement of the competition.
He added; despite that, we are ready to roar higher at the festival, no going back on our determination to haul medals at for the state at the national fiesta.
“With the atmosphere in training and the assurance from the Sports Council’s Management ,we are ready to make the state proud,”
Meanwhile, the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 has approved January 3-17, 2021 for the National Sports Festival, after the initial December 3rd date was rejected.
The new date was agreed on during a virtual meeting, convened by the Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Mr Sunday Dare, which reviewed circumstances around the recent rescheduling of the sports fiesta.
The new date is to allow the PTF, Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Edo State Government and the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development to complete necessary steps and processes, to ensure a hitch free Festival and deployment of rapid diagnostic test kits for over 11,000 athletes.
