Educate your children on importance of sports, ACA Principal urges parents

The Principal of Aquinas College Akure , Mr Olusola Adeyeye has enjoined parents to do more in enlightening their children on the importance of doing Sports.

Adeyeye made the call during the 69th Inter house sports of the school held at the college playing ground in Akure.

He said there is a great nexus between academic and sports, saying sports sharpen children brain and it’s imperative for parents to encourage  and support their wards to participate in sports.

According to him, “there are lots of students that are not doing well academically ,but excell in sport, not even now that sports has become a business where people are making millions .

“School is not all about classroom alone , you can see the enthusiasm in them , they  are free from the class workload, like the saying , all works and no play make Jack a dull boy, they are happy today.

“Our school is known for academic excellence and in sports we are not push over.”

He therefore advised the exceptional athletes among the students to keep it up, saying they should not be discourage to bury their God gifted talents.

The National President of Aquinas College  Akure Old Students Association (ACAOSA), Hon. justice Aladesuyi Olateru Olagbegi commended the management of the College for maintaining and preserving the integrity, excellence of the great school.

He said,” The ACAOSA will ensure there is provision of pavilion for spectators, we will have a a Tennis Court by the time we are celebrating the 70th years anniversary,” he said.

 Meanwhile Saint Francis house (Blue)has emerged as the overall winner of the event with 336 points, and Saint Eugene house  (Red)came second with 224 points , while Saint Thomas house  (White), Saint John house (Green), Saint Michael house Yellow, and Saint Williams (house ) Purple  3rd, 4th 5th and 6th with 206, 143,125,123 points.

In the invited school relay, Oyemekun Grammar School came first in boys  category, Akure Secondary Commercial came seconds and United CAC third, Fiwasaye Girls Grammar School Akure lead girls category, followed by African Church Comprehensive High school and Akure Secondary Commercial .

Owoeye Segun went home with the best athlete prize.
