The National President of the Adeyemi Federal University Alumni Association, Dr. Festus Oyebade, has stressed the importance of education, saying it is the benchmark of every nation.
Oyebade made this statement during a debate competition organised by the association as part of the 61st Foundation Day ceremony and 35th Convocation activities.
He also described the university as one of the notable institutions that have impacted its students, making them among the best of their peers.
Speaking further on the relevance of education to national development, he urged the Federal Government to place more emphasis on educational advancement.
He said, “Without quality education, no nation can attain stability or compete favourably with other nations.
“Good education should be encouraged at all levels because not all hands are equal. Some families may not be able to send their children to higher institutions, while others may only reach the basic level. On that note, the little they have learned will still guide them properly.”
While speaking on the topic of the debate, “Changing Dynamics in Education in Adeyemi Federal University of Education: Trends and Implications,” representatives from each of the five participating faculties spoke extensively and presented their positions on the topic.
At the end of the debate, the Faculty of Arts, represented by Yusuf Ayomide and Oseni Faith, was declared the winner.
The second position went to the Faculty of Science, represented by Tolulope Oyebanjo and Fadayomi Samuel.
Similarly, the third position went to the Faculty of Education, represented by Adewole Oluwaseyi and Toyin Ogunmola, while the fourth and fifth positions went to the Faculties of Vocational and Technical Education, and Management and Social Sciences, respectively.
