EFCC arrests 30 ‘yahoo’ undergraduates

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC), Ibadan zonal office, has arrested 30 suspected internet fraudsters in Ado-Ekiti, the capital of Ekiti State.
The suspects, who are students of various higher institutions of learning in the town were apprehended by the anti-graft agency at different locations within the town.
It was learnt from an impeccable source close to the EFCC that the operation was sequel to a deluge of intelligence reports available to the commission on the alleged fraudulent and illegal activities of the suspects in various parts of the town.
According to the source, many innocent residents of the town were said to have fallen victims to the tricks of the suspects, who allegedly deployed their dexterity on the use of the internet to commit crime.
The suspects whose ages range between 18 and 27 years, 27 of the suspects claimed to be undergraduates from a notable university in the town, while others said they are self-employed in various vocations.
Items recovered from the suspects included: eight exotic cars, laptops, mobile phones, assorted charms and several documents suspected to contain information used to access their victims.
A senior official of the anti-graft agency, who preferred anonymity, said the suspects presently in the custody of the agency are currently providing useful information to aid further investigations on the matter.
The EFCC official said the suspects would be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded on the matter.
